Opera the aim for rejuvenated Rumi as Zeyaadah loses her race at the start

Rumi reset the clocks on her season when denying Penja by the narrowest of margins under Gerald Mosse in a thrilling Prix de la Nonette at Deauville on Saturday.

Trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias broke one of his cardinal rules in the early part of the Parisian season when running Rumi back just a week after a disappointing reappearance, but it paid off as she landed the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux.

"She only ran once last year, so we had to get going early with her and so she had quite a hard spring," said Laffon-Parias. "But when you look at her races in both the Saint-Alary and the Diane, she was never beaten that far and always ran right to the line.

"She certainly benefited from being fresher today and luckily she hit the line on the right stride. Logically she will go to the Opera on Arc weekend now."

Supporters of Nassau Stakes runner-up Zeyaadah knew their fate early as she was slowly away and made little impact.

Jockey Jim Crowley said: "She walked out the stalls - she had a rug on - and was very slow away. They went very slow and it was always very hard from there."

Vadeni sparkles for Rouget and the Aga Khan

While Jean-Claude Rouget came out on the wrong side of the verdict in the Nonette there was no need for the judge in the mile Listed race, which was won in fine fashion by the Aga Khan's Vadeni.

"To win his second race in that style confirms what we thought of him and the good thing is he hasn't had a very hard race today," said Rouget.

"The project is to build a top-level career for him next year and he will only have one more run this season. I think there is a lot more to come and he is very classy."

Lagardere option for unbeaten Accakaba

Christophe Ferland and the Wertheimer team were rewarded by going up to seven furlongs with Accakaba in the Group 2 Prix du Calvados on the Deaville card - her fourth win on the spin.

"It was a bit stressful to watch because she was a little bit taken off her feet early on but once she latched onto the Godolphin filly [Fleur D'Iris] I began to believe she could do it," said Ferland.

"We'll look at the option of the Lagardere because it was already a gamble running over 1,400 metres [seven furlongs] and there is nothing in her pedigree that suggests that she will get the 1,600 metres [in the fillies-only Prix Marcel Boussac] this early in her career, though she could stretch out next year."

Dubai aim for Bellharbour Music

Bellharbour Music has always promised plenty and delivered in the Group 3 Prix Daphnis.

"He's a good-ground horse and has really enjoyed it today," said Alessandro Botti, who holds the licence jointly with his father Giuseppe.

"We'll have a look at the Group races coming up in the autumn but it's already great to have won this and he might be one for Dubai over the winter."
