Oaks second Mystery Angel won't be hanging around on Deauville raid says Boughey

A Classic second to the seemingly invincible Snowfall reads well for Mystery Angel, who returns from a mini-break in Tuesday's 1m2f , one of three Group 3 races on the Prix Rothschild undercard at Deauville.

The George Boughey-trained daughter of Kodi Bear has already had seven races in 2021 and struck at Listed level on Guineas weekend at Newmarket in May.

She was no match for Snowfall in the Oaks at Epsom, finishing 16 lengths adrift of a filly who heads the betting for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but there was no disgrace in that and connections were satisfied with her close fourth in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock a month ago.

"I think she ran well at Haydock and she was beaten only a few lengths," Boughey said.

"She's come a long way and is cementing herself near the top end of the fillies' bracket, but I still think the ground was too soft for her that day. I know she has form on very soft ground, but her best performance was at Newmarket in the Pretty Polly on quick ground.

"It looks like it won't be bottomless for this, which is great, and I think we'll probably make plenty of use of her over ten furlongs.

"She stays a mile and a half well, and I think I'll be telling James Doyle to get on with it.

"She's been pretty busy and has had a bit of time now. Her work's good and we go there pretty hopeful."

Mystery Angel's stablemates Oscula and Hellomydarlin – all three are owned by syndicates of Nick Bradley Racing – contest the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections Sky Sports Racing (1.25) for juvenile fillies over 7f.

Boughey's pair of two-year-olds already possess some useful Group form, and the trainer said: "Oscula is rated 2lb higher than Hellomydarlin and I think they'll both appreciate stepping up to seven furlongs.

"They worked together the other day and went as well as each other. Oscula probably wants softer ground than Hellomydarlin, but I think they'll both be competitive as they have plenty of experience already, which will be a big help."

The is the other Group 3 race and British interest in that 6f contest comes via Dairerin, who travels from Michael Bell's Newmarket yard, and the Tom Dascombe-trained Sam Maximus, who makes the journey from Cheshire.
