Leading Australian rider Hugh Bowman enjoyed a day to remember at Kensington on Saturday when he rode a 2,810-1 five-timer and was narrowly denied a famous six-timer in the final race on the card.

The 39-year-old, who is best known for his association with wonder mare Winx, was beaten in the first and third contests on the nine-race card, but bagged the second event and ended up winning four consecutive races before being beaten a neck in the last.

His opening success came aboard 29-10 shot Yonkers, a former maiden for Ger Lyons now trained by Chris Waller, before the Michael Wayne and John Hawkes-trained Dirty Work comfortably justified favouritism at the same price.

Bowman struck again aboard John O'Shea's classy filly Rocha Clock (19-5 favourite) before the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Hightail dug deep to score at 6-1.

The five-timer was completed with a sublime, patient effort from the four-time Cox Plate-winning rider aboard Phaistos. The Godolphin-owned gelding by Helmet finished with a flourish to score at 9-2.

With confidence high and a third career five-timer secured, Bowman chased a sixth win in the final contest aboard 14-5 market leader Juventus, but he came up a neck short in second, denied by 50-year-old Glen Boss and 12-1 shot Wild About Her.

"I couldn't stand the joint before today," Bowman told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"I think the wind played a big part – horses who are forward runners are finding it hard to sustain their speed.

"I've just had wide draws and had horses who get back and got home and they've all been good rides today.

"There's no magic about what I'm doing, I've had good horses with conditions to suit."

Bowman is currently fifth in the Sydney Jockeys' Premiership having ridden 51 winners this season in Sydney this season.
