Hartnell toys with rivals to take Turnbull Stakes

The ex-Mark Johnston-trained Hartnell produced a breathtaking display to easily win the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.

Giving trainer John O'Shea a first top-level success in Melbourne since becoming Godolphin's head trainer in Australia, Hartnell backed up his recent big-margin wins in the Chelmsford and Hill Stakes at Randwick with a three-and-a-quarter-length romp.

But not even that margin did justice to the performance as Hartnell, the 9-10 favourite, cruised away from his rivals with jockey James McDonald not raising a sweat.
