Eminent and Moore lead home British 1-2 as Brametot disappoints

French champion three-year-old Brametot was unable to claim another big prize in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, as Ryan Moore produced a masterful front-running ride to score aboard Martyn Meade's Craven winner Eminent, with fellow British raider Salouen following him home in second.

Brametot, who was loaded into the stalls last, again played his party trick in leaving them last, but this time he was unable to recover and finished a well-beaten fifth, running a similar race to Jean-Claude Rouget's other stable star Almanzor, who was well beaten in the Prix Gontaunt-Biron 45 minutes earlier.

Eminent, who was last seen finishing fifth behind Ulysses in the Eclipse at Sandown, bounced out of the gates and was soon sent into the lead by Ryan Moore, with Sylvester Kirk’s Salouen, who ran so well behind National Defense in the Jean-Luc Lagardere last season, settling in behind.

The field were soon spread out in Indian file and the writing was on the wall for Brametot backers a long way out as Cristian Demuro asked the son of Rajsaman for maximum effort long before the runners turned into the straight.

Eminent responded generously when Moore asked the Frankel colt to quicken for home and the result was never in doubt, with Salouen finishing a gallant second and Avilius in third.

A delighted Meade joked: "I’m a bit disappointed he didn’t win by further! No, I’m thrilled to bits. He never had a run at Sandown, which was a terrible race for him and he didn’t get a run in the Derby.

"Now we’ve just seen what he’s made of and he's proved he's the sort of horse we always thought he was."

When asked about the French authorities desire to upgrade the race to Group 1 status, he said: “It’s a great shame for me!”

Meade said Eminent was likely to return to France for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in October, for which he is a 16-1 chance with Betway. King George winner Enable was cut to 5-4 for the race with the same firm.
