British trio bidding to follow in illustrious footsteps in Prix Sigy

Three British runners are in the line-up at Chantilly for a race that has produced three subsequent Group 1 winners in the last five years.

Two of those top-level scorers were trained in Britain, with Quiet Reflection winning in 2016 before going on to capture the Commonwealth Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup, while Sands Of Mali won last year and ended 2018 by landing the Champions Sprint at Ascot.

Quiet Reflection's trainer Karl Burke will be looking to True Mason to emulate the star filly this season.

Having kept good company last year, the Khalifa Dasmal-owned colt's best effort came when finishing third to Qipco 1,000 Guineas hope Pretty Pollyanna in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville.

Elaine Burke, wife of Karl, said on Friday: “He’s wintered very well and is the type that needs his first run back. He'll take his chance and hopefully run a good race."

Last year was a vintage one for trainer Tim Easterby, who saddled 100 winners for the first time, and he will be represented at Chantilly on Saturday by impressive Rockingham Stakes victor Vintage Brut.

A £280,000 purchase by King Power Racing at the Goffs London sale in June, Vintage Brut was busy as a two-year-old.

His trainer reported: "He's in good form, working well and we're very happy with him. The good ground is fine and he should go very well if things fall right."

Barbill rounds off the British challenge for trainer Mick Channon, who said: "It won't be easy. There are three English horses in there, all with a great chance, but we were very pleased with him after his comeback at Newcastle and he seems in good form."

Leading the French-trained quintet is Happy Odyssey. Formerly with Amy Murphy, Happy Odyssey, now in the care of Nicolas Clement, was purchased for €300,000 by Zhang Yuesheng after winning a Listed contest at Maisons-Laffitte in September.
