Arc and Royal Ascot missions on the agenda for Aussie ace Verry Elleegant

Caulfield Cup winner Verry Elleegant will have the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as her main objective in 2021, with Royal Ascot also potentially on the agenda for the Australian mare.

The ambitious campaign was mapped out by Brae Sokolski, one of the joint-owners of the Chris Waller-trained five-year-old alongside the likes of Aziz ‘Ozzie’ Kheir, whose colours were carried to victory in the Cox Plate by Sir Dragonet.

According to Sokolski, Verry Elleegant is likely to contest races such as the Apollo Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes and Ranvet Stakes before running in either the Tancred or Queen Elizabeth Stakes, after which the mare will be campaigned in Europe.

"We've always thought she's going to be at her best as a six-year-old and she's a proven world-class mare who loves wet ground and deserves to be tried on the world stage," Sokolski told racing.com on Tuesday.

"She'll be at the peak of her powers at her favourite trip and we'd love to see what she could do. She's not Winx, but there's no doubt she's the best mile-and-a-half horse in the country."

Australian runners in the Arc are unusual but not unheard of with Strawberry Road finishing fifth in the 1984 running behind Sagace, while So You Think finished fourth behind Danedream in 2011 after being transferred to trainer Aidan O’Brien from Bart Cummings.

Verry Elleegant finished seventh in last week's Melbourne Cup behind the Joseph O’Brien-trained Twilight Payment, finishing powerfully from the rear of the field.

But Sokolski is not keen to target the race again, saying: "That was her one and only chance at it and we thought she ran very well after getting too far back. She lost sight of the leader and just couldn't win from where she was, but she really finished off bravely."
