The two Cormac Farrell-trained horses who formed part of a substantial gamble on Friday morning were both beaten soundly in races at Kilbeggan and Worcester.

Onehundredpercent, the gamble's first leg, was backed from an overnight price of 14-1 into 6-5 at the off for the 2m3½f maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan before finishing second.

Despite travelling well into the race, Onehundredpercent could not go with the Henry de Bromhead-trained An Taibhse, who kicked four and a half lengths clear for championship-chasing Rachael Blackmore.

Crecerelle was cut to 13-8 on Friday morning (from 22-1) before drifting out to an SP of 17-2 for the 2m novice handicap hurdle at Worcester. He travelled strongly into the race before fading out of contention after the second-last to finish fourth.

Friday results, replays and analysis

Speaking on Friday morning Farrell, the trainer at the centre of the gamble, told the Racing Post he had been blindsided by the move for both horses. He said he was baffled by the big plunge and only found out about the gamble after 10am.

Farrell said: "Truthfully I only got wind of this about 20 minutes ago [around 10am]. Don't get me wrong, I like both of the horses and they are going to their respective races in good form, but the reality is that I have been blindsided by this. Lads are ringing me wondering what's going on and I haven't a clue!"

On the two horses involved, the trainer added: "I do like Onehundredpercent as a horse. He's nice and he's a proper winter horse. I wouldn't be running him on ground like this only for the fact I want to get one run into him before I let him off. He will hopefully cope with the ground as he's a light-framed horse. He is nice and it's not a great race so I could see why someone might have only a few quid on.

"It's Crecerelle's first run in a handicap and he's dropping down in trip, but his wind has been catching him so I'd be very worried about that."

Farrell had highlighted Kingslayer, who ran in the 1m2f apprentice handicap at Cork, as his best chance of the day and the four-year-old was subsequently backed into as short as 13-2 having been 25-1 in the morning. Despite running well, Kingslayer could finish only fifth.
