'I don't know why he isn't favourite' - why this horse can win the July Cup

Romantic Proposal (left) and Creative Force (right): fancied for the July Cup

Saturday's Darley July Cup (4.25) has attracted a stellar cast of 14 – but who do our tipsters fancy?

4.25 Newmarket: July Cup racecard and betting

Perfect Power

Odds: 5-2

By David Jennings, deputy Ireland editor

It's boring, but it's blatantly obvious. The older sprinters seem to be a moderate bunch and Perfect Power looks by far the best of the three-year-olds to me.

He did really well to win the Commonwealth Cup given he came out of stall one (12-9-8 were the next three home) and he didn't do everything right in the early part of the race either. He hit a high of 6-1 in running on Betfair but was well on top at the line and won going away.

The July course looks sure to suit him and I don't see any negatives. I just think he'll win.

Romantic Proposal

Odds: 12-1

By Brian Dowling, reporter

Eddie Lynam knows how to ready one for this, as we saw with Slade Power in 2014, and he is very sweet on Romantic Proposal's chances this time around.

Last season's Flying Five heroine looked as good as ever when winning on her seasonal debut in Listed company at Naas, barely coming off the bridle to dismantle a good quality field. Although her biggest success has come over 5f, she has plenty of form over 6f, as we saw when she won the Listed Dash at the Curragh last June.

Chris Hayes knows her better than anyone and he's booked once more and, although conceding weight to some nice three-year-olds, 12-1 is value too good to ignore.

Creative Force

Odds: 5-1

By Graeme Rodway, deputy betting editor

Simply the best horse in the race. He recorded a good time when winning the British Champions Sprint at Ascot last season and should have won the Platinum Jubilee. He did best of those to race away from the rail and was beaten only by Naval Crown, who had the benefit of racing up what appeared to be the favoured stands' side.

He ran a cracker in this race last year when just two lengths behind Starman in what looked a stellar edition of the race and I can't understand why he isn't favourite.

Perfect Power

Odds: 5-2

By Richard Birch, tipster

Perfect Power won the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot with more in hand than the official margin of a length and a quarter suggests.

Newmarket’s stiff six furlongs should suit him ideally, and this top-class three-year-old possesses scope for further improvement.
