3.05 Longchamp Sunday: Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe racecard
Going update
A wet night in Paris has eased the ground to holding – going that is between very soft and heavy – ahead of the Arc, with further heavy showers at Longchamp throughout the morning.
The track raced on ground described as very soft on Saturday but with 23mm of rainfall recorded in the 24 hours up until the official ground was posted on Sunday morning, the penetrometer reading was 4.2.
Turftrax reported a GoingStick figure of 5.4, which is heavy, soft in places. Oisin Murphy also described the ground as heavy after winning the opening race on the card.
Three horses who should relish the testing ground at Longchamp
While the overnight rain was at the lower end of forecasts, it has continued longer than expected into the morning and there has to be every chance that the going will change to heavy at some stage during the day.
A fresh strip of ground has been saved for Arc day and three races will use that surface before the feature event.
Sottsass triumphed last year on the heaviest ground for an Arc since 2012, with a penetrometer reading of 4.6.
Should conditions remain at holding then they will be similar to those encountered in 2001 and 2003, when Sakhee and Dalakhani won from outside draws.
The course have also confirmed the condition of the ground means there won't be the traditional carriage ride and presentation of the Arc trophy in front of the stand.

2021 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp: the runners, the odds, the verdict
Market movers
The easing of conditions has led to a surge of support for Hurricane Lane, who is now as short as 9-4 for Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (3.05) glory.
The Godolphin colt, who showcased his class on testing ground when taking the Grand Prix de Paris in July, is now no bigger than 5-2 for the race.
Paddy Power's spokesman, Paul Binfield, said: "Hurricane Lane was popular last week, coming in from 6-1 at one time to 4-1 after the draw and the fact that he's proven on heavy ground and is guaranteed to stay the trip means he's now favourite and coming in for further support."
Tarnawa, who started the day as short as 11-4, has drifted out to 6-1 while Derby hero Adayar is a 7-2 chance.
Alenquer is another with form on soft ground and his price has continued to shrink. He is as low as 11-1 with Sky Bet after being 20-1 on Saturday morning.
Elsewhere, A Case Of You is a significant market mover in the Prix de l'Abbaye being cut from 8-1 (from 11-1).
