Third, Pontefract, Tuesday

Alnajeeb showed some promise in a pair of starts as a juvenile, albeit ending up well held both times, and he faced a similar story here.

Having his first try at 1m4f, the Mark Johnston-trained three-year-old travelled well through the race before getting tired and proving unable to race on with a pair of useful types, including the impressive winner Trawlerman.

Look for Alnajeeb to come into his own once handicapping and he's also bred to stay further than this.

Sixth, Aintree, Friday

Solwara One ran a career-best effort to finish sixth on his handicap debut in a competitive Grade 3 event and would have finished a bit closer had he not made a significant mistake at the penultimate hurdle.

This represented another small step up on his previous best and the lightly raced seven-year-old is just the type to make further progress, especially as he goes up again in distance in keeping with his staying pedigree.

He also has the size and scope to do well over fences and is fully effective on soft ground, so he is sure to win more races for his very capable trainer.

Fell, Aintree, Friday

While it was too far out to say with certainty whether he would have beaten Chantry House had he stood up, Espoir De Romay did enough to suggest he has a huge future.

The Kim Bailey-trained novice had a couple of lengths on the Cheltenham Festival winner and seemed to be travelling just a bit better than that rival when overjumping and crashing out at at the second-last fence.

He is a steadily progressive sort who has already made up into a high-class chaser and as is the case with several from this yard, he is a strong-travelling type who ironically had jumped soundly up until the point of his departure.

It will be a bit of a surprise if he doesn't win a Grade 1 next season.

Second, Wolverhampton, Saturday

This was a most promising reappearance from Nell Quickly, who was stepping up in trip after finishing fourth over 7f on her sole run as a juvenile.

The lack of early pace counted against the Denis Coakley-trained filly as she was held up in last, so she did remarkably well to come from there and beat all bar Prioritise, who had enjoyed the run of the race.

A 70,000gns yearling, Nell Quickly should prove much better than the bare facts of this race suggest.
