'He'll win a big one' - Stan Moore eyeing Greenham for The Wizard Of Eye
Stan Moore accepts the Watership Down Stud Too Darn Hot Greenham Stakes will be a tough assignment for The Wizard Of Eye, but he still intends running his stable star at Newbury next week.
The son of Galileo Gold equipped himself well last term and was a respectable fifth at the highest level in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp in October.
He has already run this season, finishing seventh in the Saudi Derby, but that came on Riyadh's dirt course.
Paddy Power and Betfair make him 50-1 for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, although 100-1 is widely available and Moore is not looking beyond the Greenham, which has a rich roll of honour when it comes to future stars.
"He's in good form and will probably run in the Greenham, but that's going to be extremely hot – everything seems to be going there," said the Lambourn trainer.
"He might go to Richard Hannon's for a piece of work later in the week and it's just to take him away. The Lambourn gallops are grand, but this takes him out of the yard and gets him on the lorry; it gets his energy going."
Moore, a Group 1 winner with Abbaye hero Total Gallery in 2009, added: "I thought he ran well in Saudi and he wasn't beaten that far. He got a little bit tired, but it was his first time on the dirt and a couple of other English horses were tailed off, so it was hard work.
"The Saudi form is working out well and the horse who was just behind us [Island Falcon] was third in the UAE Derby.
"The experience will have done him good – he's grown up a bit. He's still a bit on the babyish side, physically and mentally, and we'll see how he performs in the Greenham before we think about the English, Irish or German Guineas. He's a proper horse and will definitely win a big one."
