'He'll sneak in off a nice weight' - Betfair plan for Constitution Hill victim
Fresh from saddling his first runner in top-level company, trainer Ryan Potter is eyeing a crack at the Betfair Hurdle with Tolworth runner-up Jetoile.
The talented seven-year-old finished a 12-length second to Supreme Novices' favourite Constitution Hill in the Sandown Grade 1 on Saturday, with another six and a half lengths back to Mr Glass in third.
Jetoile was raised 8lb for that career-best effort and will make the cut for the big Newbury handicap hurdle on February 12 worth £155,000.
Potter, 33, said: "Novices have a good record in the race and he went up 8lb for his Tolworth run, so he'll sneak in off a nice weight. It'll be worth a go and it's a nice pot to have a crack at.
"We're not going to go to the Supreme as we're not going to beat Constitution Hill and probably not Jonbon, and that's before thinking about the Irish horses, so I'd rather go to Newbury and have a good chance. We'll skip Cheltenham and probably go to Aintree.
"Jetoile will be an even better chaser next season, and you never know, he could be an Arkle horse."
'I think he's a machine'
Potter is in his first full season with a licence and did eventing as a youngster prior to around 70 rides and "a few winners" in the point-to-point sphere. He has 15 horses in training at his Gloucestershire yard and Jetoile is the apple of his eye, so what did he make of Constitution Hill?
He said: "Jetoile is the first horse I've had good enough to run in a Grade 1 and I think he's a machine, so God knows what Constitution Hill must be like at home. He was very impressive and fair play to them."
Jetoile is a 14-1 shot for the Betfair Hurdle with the race sponsors, with Broomfield Burg and Challow winner Stage Star heading the betting at 7-1.
