'He must have a big pot in him' - our experts give their latest horses to follow

Second, Sandown, Sunday

It can sometimes be difficult to judge the strength of bumpers, especially where newcomers are concerned, but there were some powerful yards represented in Sandown's finale on Sunday and both the well-backed winner, No Ordinary Joe, and Paul Nicholls' Flemenstide look to have bright futures.

Flemenstide was quite well beaten into second, but the bare result doesn't tell the story as he showed clear signs of inexperience before suddenly taking off when the penny dropped in the final quarter-mile.

A €325,000 purchase who is out of an unraced half-sister to the yard's brilliant Champion Chase winner Master Minded, he has clearly inherited plenty of ability and should have no problem picking up at least one bumper this season before switching to hurdles. [Marcus Buckland]

Third, Fontwell, Friday

This lightly raced six-year-old isn't bred to come into his own until tackling at least two and a half miles, so it was really encouraging to see him finish hot on the heels of the odds-on Ocean Drift and the 120-rated Earl Of Harrow over two miles here.

Placed in a Ffos Las bumper and on his debut run over hurdles at Uttoxeter last season, he made it three thirds in succession when staying on stoutly from two out under James Best. Jumping the last six lengths behind, he was especially strong on the run-in and finished within a neck of the runner-up and a length of the winner.

He's entitled to have sharpened up plenty from that first start since February and can surely be found a winnable race in the coming weeks. [Marcus Buckland]

Kitty's Light
Third, Wincanton, Saturday

Kitty's Light did really well to bag third in an incident-packed Badger Beers Silver Trophy at Wincanton.

It was a tall order for the four-year-old, who was turned out quickly enough after advertising abundant stamina reserves when scoring at Exeter off a 9lb lower mark last month, and his jumping got somewhat exposed off a much hotter gallop.

The manner in which he stayed on after being hampered was impressive, though, and there must be a valuable pot in him down the line. [Dave Orton]
