Harry Skelton urges racing to get behind his dad's awards bid
Leading rider Harry Skelton has implored the racing public to support his Olympic gold medal-winning father Nick's bid for Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday evening.
Skelton, who is one of 16 athletes nominated for the prestigious BBC-televised award, is co-third favourite in the betting at 50-1 with Betfred along with Laura Kenny and Mo Farah.
The market is headed by tennis number one Andy Murray at a top price of 1-7, with Olympic gold medal-winning triathlete Alistair Brownlee next in the betting at 10-1.
Harry Skelton said: “We are all hugely proud of my father’s achievements and it would be fantastic to see him win this award. Please show your support and vote for him.”
Skelton became the oldest Team GB gold medallist since 1908 when, competing at his seventh Olympics, the 58-year-old won his first Olympic gold in the individual showjumping event after a fierce six-way jump off.
Nick Skelton, who is also father to trainer Dan Skelton, said: “I definitely need some more votes but it is great to know the racing crowd are behind me.”
