Harry Cobden and Bryony Frost to be discharged from hospital after Aintree falls

Bryony Frost and Harry Cobden were waiting to be discharged from hospital on Saturday evening after being described as "fine" but "battered and bruised" following nasty falls at the Randox Grand National meeting.

Frost was unseated on Yala Enki at the 20th fence in the National, and was taken to nearby Aintree Hospital with concussion, while, earlier in the day Cobden was stood down after taking a crunching fall from Lucky One in the Betway Mersey Novices' Hurdle.

Cobden, retained rider for 11-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls, was initially set to spend the night in hospital but received the green light earlier in the evening. He missed the National ride on Give Me A Copper, who was pulled up when partnered by Sean Bowen.

Paul Nicholls' assistant trainer Harry Derham was waiting to take the jockeys home, and said he was "very confident" Frost will also be discharged.

Derham said on Saturday evening: "They're fine. I'm waiting on news from Bryony but I'm very confident she'll be discharged this evening. We've just got to wait for some blood tests. I've been told Harry will be coming home, which is great news."

He later tweeted: "Happy to report that both Harry and Bryony are both absolutely fine. A little battered and bruised but will live to fight another day."

An update on the Frost Racing Club, run by father and trainer Jimmy, Facebook page on Saturday night confirmed she was "ok, had been fully checked out" and would need "a few days off."

Derham said earlier in the afternoon of Cobden: "Harry's gone to hospital for scans on his head and his neck. He was conscious but he's very, very sore."

The news marked a testing end to Cobden's Aintree festival which started in glorious fashion with Thursday's Grade 1 double on Monmiral and Clan Des Obeaux.

Cobden picked up an eight-day ban on Friday for causing interference which had already ruled him out of the final day of the British season at Sandown. Frost had four rides at Aintree without a winner.
