Harry Beswick given green light for comeback after 'mother of all falls'

Harry Beswick, who has been on the sidelines for nearly two months after a spill he described as the "mother and father of falls", has been given the all-clear to return to action.

Beswick, who is based with Lambourn trainer Oliver Sherwood, was riding Dancing Doug for Sam Thomas when the gelding slipped in a Sedgefield bumper on December 8.

The promising conditional, whose career high came 12 months ago when he rode a double for Sherwood at Uttoxeter, was left with multiple fractures, but it was a worrying knock to the head that has taken the most time to heal.

However, the 22-year-old, recently back from a holiday in the States, has been passed fit and cannot wait to get started.

He said on Thursday: "After a very tough six weeks I've been cleared. The bones have healed, but everyone was very worried about my head and the state I was in.

"But I went away, cleared my head, kept myself fit and I passed all my tests last week, so they [the BHA] have cleared my licence to ride.

"I went over to Virginia to see a friend for a couple of weeks and got back on a horse there, which was great, and then I've been riding out at Oliver's for the last two weeks - luckily I've remembered how to ride!"

Beswick, who had a spell riding in France last summer and has plans to head back there after the end of the British season, added: "Hopefully I'll be back next week. Oliver has been extremely supportive and wants to get me on a nice one for the first ride back and I'd like it to be for him.

"All the horses look great, so fingers crossed we can have a good rest of the season. It's great to be back."
