Greenall calls time on career in saddle for new opportunities

Not only is it the end of the jumps season but also the end of the line for Jake Greenall, who has decided to call time on his riding career to explore new career opportunities away from racing.

Greenall, 25, bowed out on Quids In, trained by his brother Oliver, in the 2m juvenile handicap hurdle at Sandown on Saturday and is looking forward to "making his mark" away from the saddle.

"When I set out I wanted to be in the top ten riders and I've thrown everything at it," said Greenall. "But when you take stock and realise you're not getting there, I want to go and make a mark on what I'm going to do next.

"I've had an amazing time and a huge amount of support, but riding 20 to 30 winners a season is not for me and I want to move on to the next thing now instead of in five years when I'm 30."

He added: "Mr Timpson, my sponsor, has been a massive backer and I must thank Henry Daly, Paul Webber, James Ewart, Mark Walford and Mick Easterby for their support.”

The son of former Aintree chairman Lord Daresbury, Greenall comes from a family immersed in racing, with brothers Tom, Oliver and Toby all accomplished riders.

Looking to the future, Greenall said: "I've a few options away from racing. I'm going to spend the next six months doing lots of different things – hospitality and finance and see what fits.

"There's a company called True Luxury Sport which a friend of mine has just set up, doing luxury sporting trips around the world and I'll see if that's something I can lend my skills to."
