Goshen delivers at last as faithful followers join Moores in sigh of relief
No-one will be quite as relieved as the racing family Moore, trainer Gary and jockey Jamie, that Goshen finally put behind him his Triumph Hurdle horror show with victory in the Kingwell Hurdle, but 3,506 stable owners in the Tote Ten To Follow competition will be pretty pleased too.
Goshen now looks the biggest challenger to table-topper Honeysuckle and reigning Champion Hurdle queen Epatante at Cheltenham in three weeks' time where bonus points will be on offer. He picked up 25 points on Saturday with his 22-length triumph to keep his followers in the hunt.
The success of Dashel Drasher in the Ascot Chase was also significant. In collecting 31.4 points he sneaks into the top ten scorers in ninth, while depriving points from popular choices Master Tommytucker and the hugely disappointing Cyrname.
Dashel Drasher was racing for just 48 stables, while Captain Chaos, an equally dogged winner at Ascot in the Swinley Chase, represented just 39 stables in bagging 25.5 points.
At Haydock, Lord Du Mesnil promised he might be a contender for the real thing at Aintree when landing the Grand National Trial and 25.6 points for 146 stables, while the Rendlesham Hurdle went to Third Wind, representing 16 stables and collecting 27 points.
The most popular winner on Sunday for Ten To Follow teams was Sceau Royal in the Game Spirit Chase with 548 stables benefiting by 25 points.
The highest scorer though came in the Betfair Hurdle, with bonus points up for grabs. They went to Soaring Glory, representing 96 stables, as he stormed to a 55-point haul and the promise of more when back in novice company.
A graded win also went the way of Secret Investor in the Denman Chase. He showed good fight under Bryony Frost to see off stablemate Clan Des Obeaux and pick off 33.1 points for 147 Ten To Follow stables.
Chantry House, the second most-picked winner of the week when scoring at Wetherby to earn 12.6 points for 2,135 stables, was of particular significance to the Baffins Boyz team as it put them on top of the leaderboard on 487.10 points, with a healthy 11.26 point margin over TimmyV10.
