Gosden aces on show at Henry Cecil Newmarket Open Weekend
Palace Pier, Mishriff and Stradivarius will be among the stars on show at the Henry Cecil Newmarket Open Weekend on Sunday, September 19.
The trio are sure to take top billing on the second of the two-day event, two years on since their former stablemate Enable was the leading attraction when crowds were last allowed to attend in 2019.
The John and Thady Gosden-trained trio are all working towards possible targets in October and beyond and have racked up 15 Group 1 wins between them, yielding over £15 million in prize money.
Mishriff recently got bragging rights at Clarehaven Stables having been raised to an official rating of 127 after his win in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York. He is now ranked ahead of Palace Pier (125) and Stradivarius (122), both of whom also won last time in the Prix Jacques le Marois and Lonsdale Cup respectively.
Thady Gosden said: “We always like to support the Henry Cecil Newmarket Open Weekend and are delighted to do so again. Hopefully, Palace Pier, Mishriff and Stradivarius will be in action at the gallops morning on the Sunday and fingers crossed that we get good weather.”
The gallops event on Warren Hill takes place from 8am onwards before a record number of yards will open up around the town including Saeed bin Suroor, Roger Varian, Simon and Ed Crisford, William Knight and Charlie Fellowes.
Fellowes, who is chairman of the Open Weekend committee, said: “One of the highlights of the Henry Cecil Open Weekend is being able to see some of the equine stars out at exercise on Sunday morning. The Gosdens have always been big supporters of the event and it'll be lovely for the public to see the likes of Palace Pier, Stradivarius and Mishriff following in the footsteps of Enable.
"Hopefully there will be plenty of other stars on show as well and people will enjoy themselves around town throughout the rest of the day.”
The Open Weekend is the culmination of National Racehorse Week which kicks off around the country on September 12. For more info visit thehenrycecilopenweekend.co.uk and nationalracehorseweek.uk.
