Glorious Goodwood provides a midsummer racing treat with Group races galore and competitive handicaps over five fabulous days in West Susses. This is a week where there truly is something for everyone as the seven-day Galway festival running alongside Goodwood, with several huge and highly valuable jumps and Flat contests up for grabs. We identify the key things to look out for during a stacked week of high-quality action.

What are the main races?

Tuesday

3.35: Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1)

The first Group 1 of the week features the likely swansong of a modern staying legend as Stradivarius bids for a remarkable fifth win in Tuesday's feature contest.

Andrea Atzeni comes in for the ride on the eight-year-old for the first time since the pair won this race in 2018 but will have to reverse the form with Ascot Gold Cup winner Kyprios. Last year's winner Trueshan is entered but is unlikely to run unless the quick ground softens up.

Other highlights

Holloway Boy made a dream debut when a 40-1 winner of the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot and he steps up in grade for the Japan Racing Association Vintage Stakes (2.25), the first of two Group 2s on Tuesday, the other being the World Pool Lennox Stakes (3.00). Sacred and Lusail could both drop down from Group 1 level to face the hat-trick seeking Pogo.

Wednesday

3.35: Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1)

Baaeed bids to extend his unbeaten record to nine and record a fifth successive Group 1 win for Jim Crowley and William Haggas. Last year's winner Alcohol Free steps back up in trip after her July Cup win in a high-quality field which also features 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace winner Coroebus.

Other highlights

Coventry Stakes and Windsor Castle seconds Walbank and Rocket Rodney could clash in the Markel Molecomb Stakes (3.00), while Sandringham scorer Heredia could bounce back from her odds-on Distaff defeat in the Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (2.25), the other Group 3 on the card.

Attention will switch to the jumps in the evening with the Tote Galway Plate (6.40), the €270,000 highlight of the seven-day festival, with the JP McManus-owned The Shunter set for another tilt at a big prize.

Thursday

3.35: Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1)

Nashwa didn't quite stay when finishing third in the Oaks but held on to win the Prix de Diane last month and should relish the 1m2f trip in Thursday's £600,000 feature. John and Thady Gosden's three-year-old filly is likely to be odds-on to make it back-to-back Group 1 wins.

Other highlights

Coventry and Norfolk thirds Crispy Cat and Royal Scotsman could clash in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes (2.25) while the rapidly improving Deauville Legend could go for back-to-back Group 3 victories in the John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (3.00).

Willie and Patrick Mullins have combined to take the Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap (5.05) three times in the last four years with classy sorts and the pair could be on target again with Punchestown Champion Hurdle runner-up Echoes In Rain.

Friday

3.35: King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)

Course-and-distance winner Raasel tackles Group 2 company for the first time after Listed and Group 3 wins at Haydock and Sandown respectively. Roger Varian's Mitbaahy could attempt to reverse the form in the feature 5f sprint.

Other highlights:

The £150,000 Coral Golden Mile (3.00) is one of the standout Flat handicaps of the season and Godolphin could have a strong hand with Noble Dynasty and Shining Blue. The Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25) will do well to produce a winner as good as last year's scorer Baaeed but the consistent Berkshire Shadow could get his head in front for the first time this season. Hamish could bid for back-to-back Group 3 wins in the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate Glorious Stakes (4.10).

Saturday

2.45: Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)

Free Wind was an impressive winner of the Lancashire Oaks on her seasonal reappearance despite being hampered and is proven at this 1m6f trip, having won the Park Hill Stakes on her final start as a three-year-old. Group 1-winning filly Princess Zoe could drop in trip after contesting the Ascot Gold Cup last time out.

Other highlights:

The Coral Stewards' Cup (3.20) is one of the most competitive betting heats of the Flat season as a huge field tackles the £250,000 6f contest. The John Quinn-trained Mr Wagyu took the consolation race after failing to get into this sprint 12 months ago and leads the market for the main event this time around after success in the Scurry Handicap last time out.
