Jockey Bridget Andrews left Cheltenham hoping her sister, multiple point-to-point champion Gina Andrews, had suffered only superficial injuries after being kicked in the face in a horrible fall on Friday.

Andrews was leading the track's third race, a handicap hurdle, when her Pam Sly-trained mount, Haafapiece, crashed out at the final flight.

Although the horse galloped away unscathed, Andrews remained behind green screens for some time before being taken away from the scene of the accident.

Bridget Andrews wanted to accompany her sister to the Royal Gloucester Hospital but was unable to do so due to current Covid-19 restrictions. Instead, she remained at Cheltenham and issued an update after riding Mohaayed to finish third in the afternoon's final race.

"Gina looked a bit of a mess when she left but she was talking," said Andrews.

"It's pretty rubbish that I wasn't able to go with her but her husband has gone to the hospital and will hopefully be able to see her. She isn't going to look pretty for a few days but, fingers crossed, it's superficial."

Andrews enjoyed one of her best racing moments at Cheltenham when landing the 2017 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup on Domesday Book. The amateur has recently been in fine form, landing a double for Sly at Wetherby last Saturday.
