Davy Russell's retirement was short-lived after he announced on Wednesday night he would be returning to the saddle to cover for the injured Jack Kennedy. Here are five rides he could enjoy on his comeback. . .

Mighty Potter

Favourite for the Turners' Novices' Chase at Cheltenham following a dazzling display in the Drinmore at Fairyhouse last month, Mighty Potter has produced easily the best performance of any Irish novice chaser this season. He is entered in the Ladbrokes Novice Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival and would be favourite for that were he to line up.

Gerri Colombe

Also entered in the Ladbrokes Novice Chase at Leopardstown, the exciting seven-year-old is unbeaten and made it six from six under rules in the Faugheen Novice Chase at Limerick over Christmas. A beautiful jumper, he is currently vying for favouritism for the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at Cheltenham at around 8-1.

Conflated

Produced a shock in last year's Irish Gold Cup when scoring at 18-1 under an inspired Russell ride. He hit the front before jumping three out and got first run on his rivals. The pair could be reunited in the race next month, although connections could opt to sidestep a pre-Cheltenham clash with Galopin Des Champs.

Fil Dor

Spoiled any chance he had of winning the Brand New Racing Post App Novice Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas with a shuddering error three out and actually did well to finish as close as he did in the circumstances. Had previously beaten Saint Roi in a beginners' chase at Navan and could be a leading player in the Goffs Irish Arkle at Leopardstown.

American Mike

A bitter disappointment in the Monksfield Novice Hurdle at Navan in November when going off 2-7 favourite, he had looked the part when winning a maiden hurdle at Down Royal and his bumper form is top notch having chased home Facile Vega in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last season. He is entered in both the Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle over 2m6f and the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle over 2m at the Dublin Racing Festival.
