Frankie Dettori in demand as he picks up Method ride in Middle Park Stakes
Frankie Dettori is set to pick up some fancied rides from Oisin Murphy at Newmarket this weekend, not least the Martyn Meade-trained Method in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.
Method, who is 11-4 second favourite for Saturday's six-furlong test, is unbeaten in two starts, most recently winning the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury in July under Murphy. However, the champion jockey will be required to partner The Lir Jet for his retaining owner, Qatar Racing, in the race.
Meade said: "Frankie will ride Method and he's looking forward to the ride. As it's a Group 1 race we thought we'd go for a Group 1 jockey, and we've enjoyed much success together in the past. Method will go there fresher than most as he's not run since July."
Newmarket entries for Saturday
Dettori and Meade last teamed up at the top level with Advertise, whom the jockey steered to three Group 1 victories, most notably last year's Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
As to the form of Method's Newbury success, Meade added: "I don't know how good the form is as it was only a Listed race, but he couldn't have won it any easier than he did."
Dettori also received a high-profile recall by his former mentor Saeed bin Suroor to partner the Godolphin trainer's stable star Benbatl in the Group 2 Shadwell Joel Stakes on Friday.
The six-year-old is out to win the mile contest for the second successive year after an impressive five-length victory under Murphy 12 months ago.
Murphy has regularly partnered Benbatl when available but on this occasion is required to ride 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko by Qatar Racing.
Dettori will be taking only his third ride in eight years for Bin Suroor having steered Dubai Love into third in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot in June.
Former Godolphin number one Dettori spent 18 years riding as first jockey to the trainer, during which their glittering roll of honour included multiple wins in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (three), Dubai World Cup (three), Breeders' Cup Turf (two) and numerous British Classics, including the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas.
Bin Suroor said: "Frankie needs good horses and Benbatl is the best we have. When Oisin wasn't available we went for Frankie, and we hope he will be available to take the ride."
As for the chances of Benbatl, Bin Suroor added: "He worked very well on the watered gallop on Saturday. We know he handles the track as he won the race last year and we are very much looking forward to seeing him run. Hopefully they don't get too much rain. Good ground would be fine for him."
Benbatl was due to begin his season in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood last month but was pulled out on the morning of the race when the ground was changed to heavy.
