Football agent and singer sponsors Chester race to promote launch of new single
Step aside Kia Joorabchian, there is another football agent looking to take the racing world by storm this weekend.
A Class 5 handicap at Chester on Saturday might pale into insignificance compared with Sunday's €5 million Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, where Joorabchian's Amo Racing will be represented by Mojo Star, but it will be a big deal for Laura Doyle.
The multi-talented Doyle, who combines her work as a football agent with a career as a singer, is sponsoring the 1m5½f contest (4.48) under the name Baiana Voodoo Man Handicap to coincide with the launch of her band's new single.
Baiana is a pop and Brazilian jazz band from Liverpool and Voodoo Man, which Doyle co-wrote, is their third single following the success of Paradise, which received wide TV and radio play.
Chester's marketing manager Sam Martin said: "They're a local band from the north-west and they're sponsoring the sixth race, which is something a bit different and something we haven't done before.
"We're looking forward to welcoming them and will be doing an onsite interview about their new single."
Away from her music, Doyle is a football agent and head of elite women's sports for football agency ICM Stellar Sports, a hospitality client of Chester which has Jack Grealish, Gareth Bale and Luke Shaw on its books.
The meeting is the last of Chester's season and the course is offering NHS and care home workers £10 tickets for the County concourse, with all proceeds split between five local charities.
The track's director of racing Andrew Morris said: "The past year and a half has been hard for us all, but no-one has had it more difficult than the incredible staff who have worked in the NHS and care homes across the country throughout the pandemic.
"We're delighted to be able to reward the incredible hard work of our NHS and care home workers with this amazing offer for the final raceday of the Chester 2021 season."
Tickets must be purchased in person at the box office and NHS or care home staff ID badges, or other proof of employment, must be shown. The offer can only be used for two tickets per person and it will be on a first come first served basis.
