This week is normally all about one family as we watch the action unfold at Royal Ascot alongside the Queen, her family and her friends.

Her Majesty has been unable to attend her favourite week’s racing this year, and so have tens of thousands of others who would normally mark out these five days as the opportunity to share experiences with those closest and most special to them.

Yet time and again on the penultimate day of this most peculiar Royal Ascot those with strong and deep bonds, be they blood or forged through days of toil and graft, burst through for all to see.
