Six major Irish contenders for the royal meeting trained outside Ballydoyle

Royal Ascot handicaps are not often won in the awesome style in which Settle For Bay dispatched his opposition in the Hunt Cup last season, and David Marnane's stable stalwart is likely to be given the chance of a repeat.

The way he travelled through the race was a sight to behold and a return to that sort of form would suggest a 6lb higher mark of 105 is well within his compass.

The five-year-old produced a couple of below-par displays over the winter in Meydan but he can be forgiven those exploits and back lurking on a dangerous mark, merits a second look for the Royal Hunt Cup.

Paddy Twomey
St James's Palace Stakes

Paddy Twomey's status as an emerging training force was confirmed when he saddled two of his stable stars to be placed in both Classics on Irish Guineas weekend two weeks ago.

Decrypt succumbed to Phoenix Of Spain and champion juvenile Too Darn Hot at the Curragh last time but looks poised to give Twomey a first runner at Royal Ascot.

The son of Dark Angel continues to progress with each run and although he has something to find with his Curragh conquerors, a first Group 1 winner for the trainer should not be ruled out.

Ger Lyons
Albany Stakes

Ger Lyons was dealt a blow when he lost the support of owner Sheikh Fahad last year, but Khalid Abdullah has stepped in and provided a welcome addition to his owners' roster.

The combination have had more than their fair share of success and Peace Charter confirmed herself a talented juvenile when accounting for a smart Ballydoyle filly on her debut at Naas.

She backed up that impression with a good second to Albany Stakes favourite Etoile in a Group 3 last time and has shown more than enough talent to take her chance at the royal meeting.

Sheila Lavery
Commonwealth Cup

Were it not for dual Guineas winner Hermosa we would be anointing Sheila Lavery as a Classic-winning trainer with Lady Kaya, who came so close to scoring at Newmarket.

A strong traveller in her races, Lady Kaya is now destined to continue her career as a sprinter in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs.

With Calyx ruled out of the meeting, it would be no surprise if the daughter of Dandy Man was able to catapult her trainer's name further into the spotlight.

Ribblesdale Stakes

One would struggle to find more solid form than this season's Salsabil Stakes, in which the Jack Davison-trained Fresnel was fourth behind Oaks second Pink Dogwood.

Fresnel split Tarnawa, who subsequently won a Group 3 and Altair, who since scored at Gowran Park in a 1m1½f fillies race.

The three-year-old was unfortunate not to be placed in the Musidora behind Nausha last time and being by Sea The Stars out of a Duke Of Marmalade mare should improve for the step up the 1m4f trip of the Ribblesdale.

Kieran Cotter
Norfolk Stakes

County Laois trainer Kieran Cotter will be a new name for many racing fans but he appears to have a live Norfolk Stakes contender in George Cornelius.

The Bungle Inthejungle colt displayed impressive speed over five furlongs at Dundalk on his debut and stormed home ten lengths clear at odds of 14-1.

That was a performance which suggested a well-above average performer and Cotter has a serious contender as he takes on the big guns at the Berkshire track.
