Star filly Bluestocking supplemented for Arc as line-up for Longchamp showpiece begins to take shape
Bluestocking has been supplemented for this year's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in a significant boost to the strength of the British challenge.
Owners Juddmonte and trainer Ralph Beckett had been leaning towards adding the four-year-old filly to the field and stumped up the €120,000 fee to do so on Wednesday morning. She is now likely to be one of two British-trained runners in the line-up, with Sunway representing David Menuisier.
Bluestocking has been in terrific form this season, having won two Group 1s in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix Vermeille over the Arc's course and distance last time. She also finished a fine second in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The daughter of Camelot is a 10-1 chance for the Arc behind 9-2 joint-favourites Sosie and Look De Vega, who also remain in contention. Japanese star Shin Emperor and Irish Derby hero Los Angeles are 6-1 hopes.
Bluestocking will bid to give Juddmonte a seventh success in the Arc, having won it with the likes of Enable and Workforce before the death of their founder Khalid Abdullah in 2021. The owners and Beckett will also seek to avenge last year's defeat in the race when they finished second with Westover.
Other leading contenders Al Riffa, who will be ridden by legendary Japanese jockey Yataka Take, and Delius also look set to take their chances in Sunday's showpiece contest.
The only horse to come out of the Arc on Wednesday was the Aidan O'Brien-trained Opera Singer, the winner of the Nassau Stakes, leaving a possible field of 18. The final field will be confirmed on Thursday followed by the draw.
