Major Arc change could be on the cards with door open for geldings to run in Europe's biggest Flat race
France Galop is set to revisit the question of whether geldings should be allowed to run in Europe's greatest all-aged race, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The Flat council of French racing’s governing body will examine whether the Arc and top mile event the Prix Jacques le Marois should be opened to geldings as part of discussions around its 2030 strategic plan.
The issue of whether the Arc should fall into line with other major weight-for-age races in Europe has risen back up the agenda this year thanks to the performances of the Francis Graffard-trained geldings Goliath - who won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot - and Calandagan, runner-up to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International. Neither is qualified for the Arc.
