ITV Racing schedule: Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe running order revealed - with Group 1 sprint back on the menu

ITV Racing is set to show the Prix de l'Abbaye for the first time on Sunday thanks to a change to the Arc day running order that has moved the Group 1 sprint up to the third race on the card.

Oli Bell, who will reprise his roving reporter role at Longchamp with ITV's coverage being anchored from home once again, is delighted that a race which has traditionally shone favourably on British and Irish challengers can be accommodated in this year's three-hour live coverage, which is due on air at 12.45 and will climax with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe itself at 3.20.

"Over the last few years I've been the sole reporter at Longchamp for ITV and it's a brilliant event to cover, so I'm delighted we are doing so once again," said Bell.

"Having the Abbaye is a really good addition. Given the way the schedule has fallen we've missed out on some great stories like A Case Of You in recent years."

Looking forward to this year's race, Bell added: "Richard Hughes's filly [No Half Measures] seems to be improving and, were she to win the Abbaye, to be able to show that from a UK point of view is a great addition to the coverage."

In the past the Abbaye was the opening race on the card, but in recent years the two juvenile races have taken turns to kick off proceedings, meaning the Abbaye fell outside ITV's broadcast window.

From its first Arc broadcast in 2017 until 2022 the broadcaster showed the first four races, culminating in the Arc, while timings allowed the Prix de l'Opera to be added to the schedule last year.

This year's show on ITV3 will again start with the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and the Prix Marcel Boussac, followed by the Abbaye and the Qatar Arabian World Cup, while the Arc goes back to the fifth race and will be run 15 minutes later than in previous years at 3.20.

While France Galop has yet to officially finalise the running order, there looks likely to be a sufficient number of runners in the Arc for it to serve as the main Quinte betting race, meaning the two handicaps can be left until the end of the card.

Sky Sports Racing will cover the entire two days of the Arc meeting at Longchamp, including the Prix de l'Opera and the Prix de la Foret, which are run after ITV3 goes off air on Sunday.
