The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe takes place at Longchamp on Sunday and we've looked through recent runnings of the Group 1 contest . . .

How have the Arc favourites fared?

Four of the last ten Arc favourites have won, while this year's market leader will aim to become the third successive winning favourite following victories for Alpinista (33-10, 2022) and Ace Impact (19-10, 2023).

Enable held favouritism on four occasions and went off at odds-on three times, her Arc form figures read 1126. She was successful at 10-11 and evens before defeats at 1-2 and 9-10.

Eight of the last ten Arc favourites were based in Britain, with France responsible for the exceptions in Treve – who was fourth when sent off at evens in 2015 – and Ace Impact.

The last ten Arc favourites produced form figures of 3451126311.

A rundown of the Arc favourites

2014 - Taghrooda (3rd, 9-2)

The Oaks heroine was sent off the 9-2 favourite despite being beaten at 1-5 in the Yorkshire Oaks on her prep run and having a wide draw to contend with at Longchamp in stall 15. She finished three and a quarter lengths behind Treve, who was winning her second Arc.

2015 - Treve (4th, Evens)

Seeking an Arc hat-trick, Treve was sent off at even-money following a dominant six-length victory in the Prix Vermeille. She looked to hold every chance turning for home but hung to her right under pressure and couldn't get to the Derby winner Golden Horn.

2016 - Postponed (5th, 15-8)

Roger Varian's five-year-old had won six races on the bounce and was bidding for a fourth straight Group 1 when lining up at Chantilly in 2016. He was below his best in fifth, finishing six and a half lengths behind Found.

2017 - Enable (1st, 10-11)

Enable justified favouritism to cap an exceptional three-year-old season and claim her sixth successive Group 1 win. She held off the Andre Fabre-trained Cloth Of Stars, with Sir Michael Stoute's Ulysees back in third.

2018 - Enable (1st, Evens)

Enable had been seen only once that season, landing the Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton a month before the Arc. She went into the race as the even-money favourite and kicked into a two-length lead before gamely fending off a late challenge from Sea Of Class to score by a short neck.

2019 - Enable (2nd, 1-2)

On an 12-race winning sequence, Enable was sent off a short price to land a third Arc in succession. She hit the front three furlongs from home but was unable to hold off a strong late challenge from Waldgeist.

2020 - Enable (6th, 9-10)

Kept in training at six for another crack at becoming a three-time Arc winner, Enable was again sent off as an odds-on favourite, but the heavy ground at Longchamp was a big concern beforehand and she faded into sixth behind Sottsass.

2021 - Hurricane Lane (3rd, 3-1)

After claiming Group 1 wins in the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger, Hurricane Lane was sent off the 3-1 favourite for the Arc. Charlie Appleby's colt kept on for pressure but could not run down the shock winner Torquator Tasso, finishing three-quarters of a length behind in third.

2022 - Alpinista (1st, 33-10)

Sir Mark Prescott's mare had been targeted at the Arc after beating Torquator Tasso in the previous year's Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten. She made it six straight wins at Group 1 level with a gutsy success under Luke Morris, holding off Vadeni's late challenge to prevail by a half-length.

2023 - Ace Impact (1st, 19-10)

A perfect five from five coming into the Arc, Ace Impact maintained his unbeaten record with a breathtaking success under Cristian Demuro. He became the first French-trained favourite to land the race since Zarkava (13-8) in 2008.

Who is this year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe favourite?

Sosie, trained by the legendary eight-time Arc winner Andre Fabre, narrowly heads the market at a general 4-1 after he defeated previous favourite Look De Vega in their Arc prep run in the Group 2 Prix Niel over Sunday's course and distance in September.

That marked a big step forward for Sosie, who had been beaten by Look De Vega when third in the Prix du Jockey Club before rebounding with victory when upped in trip to a mile and a half for the first time.

Connections of Look De Vega, who had been unbeaten in three starts until the Niel, have not had their confidence dented by that defeat and a "remarkable piece of work" on Monday has set the Lope De Vega colt up well for a shot at the Arc. He has been well supported over the last two days leading some bookmakers to believe he could yet resume favouritism.

Lurkling just behind that pair in the betting is Japanese contender Shin Emperor at a best-priced 6-1 in a market dominated by the Classic generation. The three-year-old had an excellent prep for his main target when finishing third in the Irish Champion Stakes, and the extra distance of the Arc should play into his hands.

Irish Derby winner Los Angeles, another three-year-old, was as big as 8-1 on Tuesday but is now as short as 11-2 with many bookmakers, and one of these four colts is expected to be your 2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe favourite.
