Bradsell and Believing to renew rivalry in the Abbaye as final fields confirmed for five Groups 1s at Longchamp on Sunday
The rivalry between Bradsell and Believing looks set to continue on Sunday after both featured among 16 declarations for the Prix de l'Abbaye (2.05), a race which this year returns to free-to-air schedules for the first time since ITV Racing took over the contract to screen British racing in 2017.
As the ground continues to dry in Paris both have been allowed to take their chance, with the George Boughey-trained looking to reverse Group 1 defeats at the hands of Bradsell in the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Flying Five at the Curragh.
A low draw is frequently an advantage on the straight five furlongs at Longchamp and Billy Loughnane will break from stall five on Believing, while Hollie Doyle and Bradsell are housed in stall nine.
Among the other British and Irish entries, Starlust, Kerdos and Washington Heights have been drawn in stalls two, three and four respectively, while No Half Measures, Rogue Lightning and Aesop's Fables are all among the high numbers.
The card will kick off with a mouthwatering clash in the Prix Marcel Boussac (12.55), with the Aga Khan's unbeaten Zarigana facing Bedtime Story – who will attempt to banish the memories of a below-par effort in the Moyglare Stakes, after which she was found to be lame. The Ollie Sangster-trained Simmering also features in the mile contest.
As in her first two starts, Zarigana will be ridden by Mickael Barzalona, who on Friday was announced as the Aga Khan's new retained jockey in France from the start of 2025. Barzalona has occupied the same role for Godolphin since 2014.
In the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1.30) Aidan O'Brien fields National Stakes runner-up Henri Matisse and Camille Pissarro, while there is further strength in the Anglo-Irish challenge courtesy of Rashabar, Cowardofthecounty and Solario Stakes winner Field Of Gold for John and Thady Gosden.
Two of the main Qatari ownership interests will face off in the Prix de l'Opera (4.05), with Al Shaqab's Sparkling Plenty and Fallen Angel for Wathnan both featuring among a field of 11.
A huge field of 18 will sweep around Longchamp's seven-furlong 'toboggan' in the Prix de la Foret (4.40), with Kinross drawn in stall two and Ramatuelle breaking from gate six.
