'We can’t really believe that so soon after Baaeed we’ve got another' - Economics is the real deal for Haggas and Marquand
Arsenal owner and billionaire businessman Stan Kroenke once said: "Economics is about creating win-win situations. But in sports, someone loses".
That someone was Auguste Rodin after an epic sporting occasion at Leopardstown, a humdinger of an Irish Champion Stakes that cleansed every possible palate as the new kid on the block hopped back up off the canvas to knock out last year's winner in the final second of the final round.
Economics has an attitude to die for and the raw ability to match it. The inexperienced three-year-old had never even run in a Group 1 before this, but his squeaky-clean record this season was kept intact by a neck in the end. At no stage up the home straight did he look like winning, yet he did. That's a good sign. Indeed, Tom Marquand, who had to be on the ball mid-race and make a move earlier than he would have anticipated beforehand, had a job pulling him up after the line. That's a very good sign.
