Gigginstown met their match in defiant handicapper Martin Greenwood, who stressed that he "did not listen" to the owners' long, voluble campaign on behalf of Tiger Roll.

Almost since their horse's second success in the race two years ago, Michael and Eddie O'Leary have been lobbying for "fair" treatment of the 11-year-old on his return to Aintree, threatening not to run the horse if they felt he had been set too stiff a task.

However, when asked about the owners' barrage of words, the man who frames the National handicap said: "Mr and Mr O'Leary are perfectly entitled to their opinion and I'm perfectly entitled not to listen.
