Not the first Corinthian to ride the winner of the Grand National but surely the ultimate amateur over Aintree's famous spruce fences, Sam Waley-Cohen retires having won seven races on the National course.

Before Saturday's Grand National success on Noble Yeats, Waley-Cohen had won the Becher Chase once, the Topham Chase twice and the Foxhunters' three times, but he saved the biggest and best until last to cap a career most riders can only dream of, never mind one who does it on a part-time basis.

As well as building up the hugely successful Portman Dentalcare business, Waley-Cohen has become a household name in racing, teaming up with his father Robert to win a string of the sport's most cherished races.
