The McCarthy family are gearing up for another huge day with "up-and-coming star" Kopek Des Bordes as he takes his first step into Grade 1 company at Leopardstown on Sunday, when he will have the whole of Fermoy behind him in his bid to confirm himself one of the top novice hurdlers around.
Trained by Willie Mullins, the five-year-old was impressive on his debut at Fairyhouse last March when bolting 13 lengths clear to land the lucrative George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper.
He made his eagerly awaited hurdles debut at Leopardstown over Christmas, beating subsequent winner Kawaboomga by two and three-quarter lengths despite a catalogue of jumping errors.
