That Willie Mullins is likely to dominate the eight Grade 1s across the two days of the Dublin Racing Festival is news to precisely nobody. He swept the lot last year and filled the placings of a fair few, and the markets will tell you that is not an improbable scenario again this weekend. 

What makes the DRF so difficult for punters is that the greatest opposition to most of the Mullins-trained favourites is another horse (or horses) from the same Closutton academy of excellence. 

Those looking for an alternative to playing the short-priced favourites across the weekend will be quick to reach for the events of Saturday at the DRF in 2024, when Danny Mullins reeled off a Grade 1 hat-trick on Dancing City (16-1), Kargese (7-2) and Il Etait Temps (6-1), while stable number one Paul Townend suffered in silence on the supposed first choices among the Mullins runners.
