Tom Marquand hopes Economics will thrive in the testing conditions in Saturday's Qipco Champion Stakes (3.55) and believes his big-race mount is at his peak for a heavyweight Ascot clash with French ace Calandagan.

The William Haggas-trained three-year-old has enjoyed a flawless campaign with four wins and will bid to end his season in style in the Qipco British Champions Day Group 1 highlight.

The Night Of Thunder colt gained a breakthrough success at the highest level in a thrilling Irish Champion Stakes last month. That Leopardstown victory, as well as his impressive wins in the Dante and Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, came on good ground, while his Newbury maiden victory in April came on good to soft.
