'I'm absolutely sure he'll be better with cut in the ground' - William Haggas relishing Champion Stakes test with Economics
William Haggas said on Sunday that he is "absolutely sure" his stable star Economics will be an even better horse with cut in the ground when he tackles the Group 1 Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot next month.
The flashy colt was in action at a gallops event at the Henry Cecil Open Weekend in Newmarket on Sunday where he appeared none the worse for his titanic tussle with Auguste Rodin in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown just eight days previously.
After watching his three-year-old canter past under regular work-rider Cieren Fallon, Haggas said: “Economics has done very little since he won at Leopardstown. He’s a great big horse and I think it was a good performance over a mile and a quarter on a sharp track like that, when he was drawn eight of eight on good to firm ground.”
