Following an informative weekend's racing the markets for British Champions Day at Ascot are beginning to take shape. We take a closer look at the ante-post lists and identify the key contenders for the star-studded fixture on October 19  . . .

Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

1.20 Ascot, October 19

Aidan O'Brien's Kyprios, a neck runner-up behind Trawlerman in this race last year, is unbeaten in five starts this season, supplementing his Gold Cup victory at this track in June with wins in the Goodwood Cup and Irish St Leger. Trawlerman has only been seen twice since downing Kyprios 12 months ago, finishing third in the Dubai Gold Cup in March before a length second behind Kyprios in the Gold Cup. Trawlerman's stablemate Sweet William was third in the Gold Cup and comes into this on the back of a win in last week's Doncaster Cup.

Paddy Power: 4-6 Kyprios, 4 Trawlerman, 9-2 Sweet William, 8 Los Angeles, 9 Harbour Wind, 10 Trueshan, Illinois, 12 Continuous, 14 bar

Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes

1.55 Ascot, October 19

Kinross claimed an 11th career win in Saturday's Park Stakes at Doncaster and has form figures of 912 in this race, finishing a neck behind Art Power when the 5-4 favourite last year. He is likely to take in the Prix de la Foret on Arc weekend before a tilt at this. The William Haggas-trained Montassib had Kinross three-quarters of a length behind in second when landing the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle in June and has since claimed the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at odds of 25-1. Kind Of Blue finished a head behind Montassib at Haydock and could represent trainer James Fanshawe, who took this race with The Tin Man in 2016.

William Hill: 5 Kinross, 6 Montassib, 8 Kind Of Blue, 10 Mill Stream, Unequal Love, 14 Devil's Point, Elite Status, Inisherin, Swingalong, 16 bar

Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes

2.35 Ascot, October 19

Kalpana comes into this seeking a hat-trick after impressive wins in the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton and Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton. Her owners Juddmonte could also run Bluestocking, who finished a neck second behind Poptronic in this race last year and has since claimed Group 1 wins in the Pretty Polly Stakes and Prix Vermeille. Bluestocking also has the option of the Arc – for which she'd need to be supplemented – and the Breeders' Cup. Aidan O'Brien's Content has improved since stepped up to 1m4f the last twice, justifying favouritism in the Yorkshire Oaks last time. Emily Upjohn finished a length-and-three-quarter third in the Yorkshire Oaks and ran out a three-length winner of this race in 2022.

William Hill: 3 Kalpana, 7-2 Bluestocking, 6 Content, 7 You Got To Me, 8 Emily Upjohn, 10 Jackie Oh, Tiffany, Opera Singer, Purple Lily, 14 bar

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by Qipco)

3.15 Ascot, October 19

The admirable Charyn has produced form figures of 112112 in his four-year-old campaign, claiming a maiden Group 1 success in the Queen Anne Stakes over course and distance in June. Subsequently a three-length winner of the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville, he bids to return to winning ways having finished second behind Tribalist in the Prix du Moulin last time. Karl Burke's Fallen Angel was an impressive winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas in May and made an eyecatching return when chasing home Porta Fortuna in Saturday's Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. Facteur Cheval, the six-length runner-up to Big Rock in this race last year, was last seen finishing third in the Sussex Stakes behind Notable Speech, who must bounce back from a disappointing fifth in the Moulin.

Sky Bet: 15-8 Charyn, 7 Fallen Angel, 8 Notable Speech, Opera Singer, 10 Facteur Cheval, 12 Inspiral, Metropolitan, 14 bar

Qipco Champion Stakes

3.55 Ascot, October 19

Economics maintained his upward trajectory with a hard-fought success in Saturday's Irish Champion Stakes and is expected to head here as he bids for a fifth straight win. Francis Graffard's Calandagan ran out a six-length winner of the King Edward VII Stakes over 1m4f at this track in June before a fine second when dropped back to 1m2½f in the Juddmonte International, where he was a length behind City Of Troy. Calandagan's stablemate, and impressive King George winner, Goliath is expected to bypass the race and head to Cologne for the Group 1 Preis von Europa next. Aidan O'Brien could be represented by Los Angeles, who stayed on for fourth behind Economics at Leopardstown. O'Brien's Auguste Rodin and City Of Troy also sit prominently in the ante-post betting but both look set to skip Champions Day in favour of the Breeders' Cup.

Betfair Sportsbook: 6-4 Economics, 2 Calandagan, 6 Goliath, Los Angeles, 10 Auguste Rodin, Bluestocking, City Of Troy, 12 Opera Singer, 14 bar
