Welcome to the 41st Breeders' Cup and it's time for the Ballydoyle banker (no, not City Of Troy)

It's beginning to look a lot like history. Eighty-seven years after Bing Crosby brought Del Mar to life, we might just be on the brink of something extraordinary in the Breeders' Cup Classic. It's where the turf meets the surf, and this is the biggest wave to crash into the San Diego shore for some time. We're swinging on a star.

City Of Troy is to the 41st running of the Breeders' Cup what Messi was to the World Cup in Qatar. It feels like the whole world is staring. Every move he makes, every step he takes, we've been watching him. He's the posterboy of this particular tournament, and at 2.41pm my time on Saturday night (9.41pm your time), the turf will meet the dirt and we'll finally find out whether Justify's most famous son can answer the $7 million dollar question. Will or won't he handle what's underneath him?

The build-up to the Breeders' Cup might feel like it's about one horse and one horse only, but it's not. There is so much more to it than that and the first episode of the two-part series is screened on Friday, when all the cool kids come out to play. It's a sneak peek of the future as the world's most talented two-year-olds strut their stuff.
