Wathnan Racing eye 'cherry on top' Breeders' Cup breakthrough as James Doyle agonises over big-race ride

A Breeders’ Cup breakthrough would be “the cherry on top” of a great first full year in Britain for the burgeoning operation of Wathnan Racing, whose strength in depth has left retained rider James Doyle agonising over a choice of rides in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

Doyle has the options of Flying Childers winner Aesterius and Norfolk Stakes scorer Shareholder in the 5f contest won by Big Evs last year, with William Buick lined up to ride the other.

The Archie Watson-trained Aesterius has won four of his six races and only once finished out of the first two. He is a best-priced 11-2 with bet365, whereas the Karl Burke-trained Shareholder, who has to bounce back from finishing last in the Prix Morny, is 14-1 with Coral.
