Connections of Fierceness believe their three-time Grade 1 winner on the dirt is the "horse to beat" in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic (9.41) and that he will provide the sternest opposition to favourite City Of Troy on his date with destiny at Del Mar.

The Todd Pletcher-trained colt earned the title of champion male two-year-old last year after a magnificent win by six and a quarter lengths in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita.

After a scintillating 13-length win in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park in March, he went off 16-5 favourite for the Kentucky Derby but trailed in 15th. He got back on track with back-to-back wins at Saratoga in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy and Grade 1 Travers Stakes.
