The draw has been kind to City Of Troy, who will attempt to pull off a famous win in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic (9.41) at Del Mar from gate three.

Generally speaking, for a dirt newbie, you don't want too low a stall, as any hesitation into stride could see you being crowded by speedy, more seasoned runners. And then you're in for a real culture shock, facing the kickback while trying to get to grips with a foreign surface.

However, City Of Troy is not slow. He won the Juddmonte International from the front, albeit setting relatively modest fractions, and don't forget he made all in the Dewhurst over seven furlongs a year ago. Even when flopping in the 2,000 Guineas in the spring, he raced prominently over the mile trip while taking a keen hold.
