In a week when Ed Walker warned against the rise of 'super stables', it was heartening to see Tracy Waggott land a blow for a smaller yard when recording the biggest win of her career in the Great St Wilfrid.

Whether we will see more trainers forced to follow the likes of Harry Dunlop and Joe Tuite in leaving the sport, or the emergence of a small band of trainers with 300-500 horses, remains to be seen but there is no question British racing would be poorer in both scenarios.

Intrinsic Bond provided timely evidence of just why those in charge must do everything to ensure the sport remains viable for smaller trainers when landing Ripon's most valuable contest on Saturday.
