Westover's commanding Irish Derby win earns best rating since Jack Hobbs

Westover underlined just how unlucky he'd been at Epsom with his emphatic success in the Irish Derby on Saturday, returning an improved Racing Post Rating of 124 which puts him on the heels of Desert Crown among the leading three-year-olds.

This strong staying performance underlined the impression from Epsom that with a clear run he'd have given Desert Crown something to think about and rates the best winning figure in the race since Jack Hobbs (125) in 2015.

With Tuesday not at her best, Westover's task was clearly eased somewhat, but a seven-length victory in a Classic is not to be sniffed at and the form looks sound with runner-up Piz Badile getting back to something like the form of his Ballysax Stakes win.
