Triple Champion Hurdle winner Istabraq and unbeaten superstar Black Caviar among those we lost in 2024
John Randall looks back at the horses we said farewell to last year
Istabraq, one of racing's greatest champions, died on July 25 at the age of 32 after spending a long and happy retirement at owner JP McManus's Martinstown Stud.
The triple Champion Hurdle winner compiled a career full of superlatives and is the only truly great champion ever trained by Aidan O'Brien, whose top-rated Flat horse is Hawk Wing.
In his tribute, O'Brien called him “an almost mystical character really and it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing to get a horse like him”.
