Tom Segal with some 'difference makers' to consider in Ten To Follow competition
The way to win the Tote Ten To Follow is to fill your list with the obvious big points scorers and then sprinkle in a couple of 'difference makers'.

No-one needs to be told Palace Pier and Love are likely to win plenty of Group 1s and no doubt plenty of the Aidan O'Brien three-year-olds will rack up the points, they usually do. Consequently, this list isn't designed to win the competition but to put forward a few ideas for a 'difference maker' or two because your chance of winning is significantly decreased if you have all the same horses as everyone else.
For example, it might be worth considering Breeders' Cup winner Tarnawa over Love, and Subjectivist over an ageing Stradivarius if you fancy including a stayer.
Al Aasy looked so good in the John Porter and might be underestimated, while from the sprinting division I can't get over how impressive Starman was at York – and I doubt he will be that popular in comparison with the likes of Oxted and Dream Of Dreams.
I think four older horses are more than enough and the rest of the list should be made up of three-year-olds. I expect Santa Barbara and High Definition will be extremely popular but both have plenty to prove so it could be worth avoiding them.
Of the colts, Mutasaabeq would be one to consider strongly as he has the pedigree of a standout miler, while Thunder Moon could easily switch back to sprinting if he doesn't stay a mile.
As for the Derby, the horse who has impressed me most this season has been Kyprios, who is from a superb family that stay well.
Of the three-year-old fillies, Teona was extremely impressive in a good time over 1m2f as a juvenile and has Oaks written all over her, while there is a good chance Sacred stays a mile which opens up plenty more options for her.
Finally, have a look at Queenship winning at Gowran for Joseph O'Brien recently. She could be this season's Champers Elysees.
