'We stripped him naked, only for him to meet his owners coming the other way'

Trainer Tom Lacey, 48, takes our weekly grilling

What advice would you give your ten-year-old self?
Be true to yourself.

What is your earliest racing memory?
Pushing cars out of the Heythrop point-to-point, returning home with pockets full of money to buy sweets for the rest of the year.

Having eclipsed last season's win tally significantly with more than 30 victories this campaign, what would you say has been the main cause of this elevated success?
Having a larger number of happy, healthy horses. We're into our fourth year on new gallops and have a fair handle on how they should be used to obtain the best possible result for the horses. We’ve had great staff as well.
