Friday marks the end of an era for British racing and its governing body the BHA, whose chief executive Nick Rust steps down after nearly six years in the role.

It has been a longer stint than any of his predecessors at the governing body in the last 20 years and has been marked by a number of grave challenges, not least the Covid-19 crisis which struck not long after Rust announced his decision to leave the BHA.

Rust has been the public face of racing's leadership and has overseen a number of reforms to the way the sport is run, as well as bringing in innovations such as the Horseracing Bettors Forum and Horse Welfare Board.
